While Jesus was on earth, he made a profound statement in John 8:32 saying, “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free”.
Incidentally, he spoke those words to the Jews who believed in Him. Jews had argued that they are Abraham’s seed and as such never imagined or accepted that they are slaves or in bondage.
In the same way, there are many believers today that are suffering several afflictions of the devil, some are suffering severe oppressions in the hands of the devil tremendously.
However, the tragedy is that some of these believers never accepted that they are not yet free indeed. Yourself, as a person, can you truly say that you are free indeed?
In John 8:, Jesus gave an insight as to those yet to be free in deed saying, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. Speaking further, he said in verse 36 saying, “Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.
In John 8:32, Jesus hinged being truly free in having adequate knowledge of the truth. This is because knowing about the truth cannot set anyone truly free.
The same can equally be said about inadequate knowledge of the truth. Bishop David liked it to someone who wrote the examination and scored 35%.
Yes , the person knew part of the answers to the question but the answers he knew were not enough to secure him a pass mark while another person scored 90%. Definitely, the knowledge of the answers by the two individuals are never the same.
Bringing it home, in this life, there are people who are still swimming in sin because they lack the knowledge of redemption that Jesus brought to man kind.
There are others who have the knowledge of redemption and have experienced salvation from sin yet they lack knowledge of what goes with the redemptive package.
Such people, they still suffer one affliction or the other in the hands of the devil. Others, they have knowledge of the truth about their accomplished redemption and their redemptive package about living in divine health.
However, despite their knowledge about their redemption and redemptive package of God’s provision for their divine health yet some of them lack knowledge of the truth about God’s provision for their welfare.
Such people, they are suffering abject poverty and yet celebrating their poverty. Some, because of lack of knowledge, they think that poverty is a sign of their spirituality.
In other words, there are many faithful Christians, tongue talking and as well as living right with God but are suffering in abject poverty, some various health or emotional challenges in the hands of the devil.
I wish to point out that true and adequate knowledge of the truth that sets us free covers the total man. The total mam comprised of the spirit, the soul and the body.
Jesus made it clear, we shall know the truth, and it is that knowledge of the truth that sets us free. That is, we must have adequate knowledge of the truth that makes us free in our spirit man, our soul and our body.
That is why the apostle John told us in 3John verse 2 saying “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers”
In other words, how healthy our spirit man is determined how we enjoy true freedom in our spirit, how healthy and prosperous our soul is determines whether we enjoy true freedom in our soul. In the same way, we must have a truly healthy body to ensure that we are truly free in our body.
Having said that, my mind quickly ran to an article I read the previous day about the story of 12 Popular Pastors Who Committed Suicide. I was asking myself of what could cause pastors to commit suicide if not depression, not been free in our soul?
That goes to confirm what Psalm 82:5-6 says, “They do not know, nor do they understand; They walk about in darkness; All the foundations of the earth are unstable. I said, “You are gods, And all of you are children of the Most High.
Adequate and true knowledge of the truth is all we need to enjoy true freedom as lack of knowledge is the bane of our society today.
As Jesus have given us insight as to have true freedom which is to have knowledge of the truth. It is then left for us to take personal responsibility to ensure that we are loaded with adequate knowledge of the truth.
We must ensure that we have adequate and true knowledge of the truth about having freedom in our spirit, soul and our body. We must therefore feed our spirit, soul and body with necessary and correct nourishment.
For instance, if you feed on poisonous food or junk foods always, you will have breakdown in your body. In the same way, we must have a nourished spiritual intake to have a healthy spirit and soul.
I was listening to one of the message of Bishop David Oyedepo, in that message; he was making an illustration of what makes the Boys Scout to go camping in a thick forest and come back unscratched despite that all manner of wild beasts dwell there?
According to him, the reason was that they make heavy burn fire. As long as that fire is on, every wild beast stays clear, in fact they all run away for their dear lives.
We will discuss in the part two how that boy’s scout camping in a thick forest relates to us. For now, we will end the part one here. Shalom!
