This is the third and final part of our discussion of the topic, “confronting and conquering the Goliath of your life”. I hope you have read the part two for a better understanding. If not GO HERE to read the part two.
We ended the part two by looking at the need to confront the giant Goliath of your life in the name of the LORD of hosts.
By confronting the Goliath of your life in the name of the Lord, you shall surely prevail over him just as David prevailed over the Goliath. See 1 Samuel 17:50 “So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone, and struck the Philistine and killed him”.
Before we shall conclude the lessons of the battle encounter between David and Goliath, there is one valuable lesson we left out which can be seen in 1 Samuel 17:10.
In that verse, Goliath the Philistine said, I defy the armies of Israel this day; give me a man, that we may fight together.
What I am trying to bring out here is that Goliath, with all his military might, before he will fight any battle, he first defies the army of the opponents.
That is exactly what the devil does that had inflicted heavy wounds on the church. That is, he tries to ensure that believers are defiled which renders them powerless in the battles of life.
The reason is that once believers are defiled, the Holy Spirit which empowers us will leave us just as he left Samson as seen in Judges 16:20
And she said, “The Philistines are upon you, Samson!” So he awoke from his sleep, and said, “I will go out as before, at other times, and shake myself free!” But he did not know that the LORD had departed from him
Once God departs from us, we became powerless against the Goliath of our lives just as King Saul and all the armies of Israel were powerless against Goliath.
To further illustrate what happens when we get defiled, we will look at what happened in Zechariah 3:1-4 Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the Angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to oppose him.
Once we get defiled, we give the devil the legal ground to attack or resist us just as he stood to resist Joshua the high priest. In our warfare against the Goliath of our life, many ends up as victims and casualties because they confronted the Goliath even when they are defied.
One of the instrument the devil uses to get us defied is by using pleasure especially $exual pleasures. These days, $ex marketing is the order of the day and today even anointed men of God are held captive by $exual pleasures
The only thing that will guard us is to heed what the book of Ephesians 6:14 urged us to do, “Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness.
Equally, the book of 1 Peter 4:7 said, “But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer. That is, we must be sober and watch unto prayer.
This means that when we confront the giant Goliath of our life, we shall prevail over him and all the supporters of the giant Goliath will surely flee from us just as they fled after David defeated Goliath.
See 1 Samuel 17:51b. And when the Philistines saw their champion was dead, they fled. The same will be our portion when we confront and defeat the Goliath of our lives. Shalom!
