This is the second part of our discussion of a rejoinder to Sunday Adelaja’‘s false statement that “only fools and the mediocre believe more in God than in themselves”. It is highly advised that you read part one first before reading this second part for a better understanding.
Please GO HERE to read part one. In continuation of this segment, I wish to point out that we need to heed the crucial advice that the apostle Paul gave to Timothy, as seen in 2 Timothy 2:15. That verse says, “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth”.
It is only when we are diligent to present our self-approved to God, that we will be workers who do not need to be ashamed. Only when we do that, that will rightly be dividing the word of truth”. Our rightly dividing of the word of truth is what could prevent us from being victims of the false teachings of men like Sunday Adelaja and company.
Secondly, to live a balanced Christian life, we need to possess a discerning spirit. Any man/woman with a discerning spirit will surely decode that DSA is no longer speaking with the spirit of God.
To prove what I am saying, could you imagine DSA who wrote a classical book when he was in the faith which was captioned, “Money Won’t Make You Rich: God’s Principles for True Wealth, Prosperity, and Success” Money Won’t Make You Rich: God’s Principles for True Wealth, Prosperity, and Success by Sunday Adelaja – PDF Drive.
Could you imagine that the same man could turn round to say that “only fools and the mediocre believe more in God than in themselves”?
Like the apostle, Paul questioned the Galatians in Galatians 3:3 saying, “Are you so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, are you now being made perfect by the flesh? So DSA feels that what he has begun in the Spirit, that he can be made perfect by the flesh.
Having said that, I wish that we look at what the bible said in 1 Corinthians 15:10 where Paul said, “but by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me was not in vain, but I labored more abundantly than they all, yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.
However, going by the insinuation of Sunday Adelaja, saying that “only fools and the mediocre believe more in God than in themselves”. That is, he is insinuating or he was despising the grace of God as he claims that all his achievements are done without God.
Remember the warning of Jeremiah 17:5 which says, “thus says the Lord: “Cursed is the man who trusts in man And makes flesh his strength, Whose heart departs from the Lord.
Please, you should recall that it was the pride and arrogance of Sunday Adelaja that made the Spirit of God depart from him because proverbs 29:23 says, “a man’s pride will bring him low, But the humble in spirit will retain honor”.
Compare it to what Paul says in 1 Corinthians 2:4 where he said, “and my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power”.
Sunday Adelaja on the other hand is claiming that cannot claim that his own preaching was with enticing words of man’s wisdom, and he is not demonstrating the Spirit and of power”
In other words, Sunday Adelaja cannot claim that he preaches with the spirit and power of God, and it is very unfortunate for Sunday Adelaja to be pointing people to self rather than to God.
Compare what Jesus said and what Sunday Adelaja is saying as recorded in John 15:5 which says, “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me, you can do nothing.
What I am trying to point out is that Sunday Adelaja is dead wrong by saying that “only fools and the mediocre believe more in God than in themselves” because, without faith in God, faith in self amounts to nothing.
Finally, consider the parable of Jesus in Luke 12:16-20 where he says, “then He spoke a parable to them, saying: “The ground of a certain rich man yielded plentifully. And he thought within himself, saying, ‘What shall I do since I have no room to store my crops?’
So he said, ‘I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build greater, and there I will store all my crops and my goods. And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink, and be merry.”‘
But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?’ It was I, I, I that destroyed the rich fool, so don’t allow Sunday Adelaja to mislead you into putting more faith in self than in God. Shalom!
