In part one of this series, we started to look at provoking God’s showers of blessings. We looked at how Solomon provoked God’s showers of blessings.
This part two, we shall continue our discourse by looking at another person that really provoked God’s showers of blessings in the person of Abraham.
Abraham was another person in the Bible that provoked and enjoyed God’s showers of blessings. We can see the story of how Abraham provoked those showers of blessings in Genesis 22.
In that chapter, God tested Abraham by asking him to sacrifice his son Isaac, the son he waited for 25 years to get. Abraham’s obedience provoked God to pronounce to Abraham of what we can see in Genesis 22:15-17.

Then the Angel of the LORD called to Abraham a second time out of heaven, and said: “By Myself I have sworn, says the LORD, because you have done this thing, and have not withheld your son, your only son –
“Blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply your descendants as the stars of the heaven and as the sand which is on the seashore; and your descendants shall possess the gate of their enemies.
Look at what was said in Genesis 13:2 “And Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold”.
One of the ways we can provoke these showers of blessings is by an encounter with a true prophet OF God. 2 Chronicles 20:20 and as they went out,
Jehoshaphat stood and said, “Hear me, O Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem: Believe in the LORD your God and you shall be established; believe His prophets, and you shall prosper.”
In the bible, two women who demonstrated how believing and obedience to true prophets of God can provoke showers of blessings.
The first is the Zarephath woman. We can see her story in 1 kings17:9-16. God told Elijah to “Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and dwell there. See, I have commanded a widow there to provide for you.”
So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, indeed a widow was there gathering sticks. And he called to her and said, “Please bring me a little water in a cup that I may drink.”
So she said, “As the LORD your God lives, I do not have bread, only a handful of flour in a bin, and a little oil in a jar; and see, I am gathering a couple of sticks that I may go in and prepare it for myself and my son, that we may eat it, and die.”
“For thus says the LORD God of Israel: ‘The bin of flour shall not be used up, nor shall the jar of oil run dry, until the day the LORD sends rain on the earth.'”
The bin of flour was not used up, nor did the jar of oil run dry, according to the word of the LORD which He spoke by Elijah.
In 2 Kings 4:1-7 is we can see the story of the second person, “a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets who cried out to Elisha, saying, “Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that your servant feared the LORD.
And the creditor is coming to take my two sons to be his slaves.” So Elisha said to her, “What shall I do for you? Tell me, what do you have in the house?” And she said, “Your maidservant has nothing in the house but a jar of oil.”
Then he said, “Go, borrow vessels from everywhere, from all your neighbors-empty vessels; do not gather just a few.” And when you have come in, you shall shut the door behind you and your sons; then pour it into all those vessels, and set aside the full ones.”
So she went from him and shut the door behind her and her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured it out.
Now it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said to her son, “Bring me another vessel.” And he said to her, “There is not another vessel.” So the oil ceased.
Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, “Go, sell the oil and pay your debt; and you and your sons live on the rest.”
In our society today, there are some who are flying high and enjoying showers of blessings via their encounter and obedience to the words of the prophet of God.
The summary of what I am saying is that to enjoy showers of blessings, we must heed the words of Jehoshaphat, “Believe in the LORD your God and you shall be established; believe His prophets, and you shall prosper”
That is to say, we must show our love for God by obeying his words and instructions. We must also believe and obey the words instructions of His prophets if we expect to enjoy God’s showers of blessings. Shalom!
