This is the second part of our discourse on the topic” saints of god, are you putting on the whole armor of God? I hope you have read the first part as this part is the continuation. GO HERE to read the part one.
We ended the first part by looking at one major reason according to Paul that we should take up the whole armor of God. The reason is that we may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Coming to individual armor that make up the whole armors of God, the first we shall look at is the belt that are used to gird our waist. Practically, you can never see any soldier that is fighting with one hand and using one hand to hold his trousers from falling off?
No, because soldiers usually use a big army belt to gird their waists. In the same way, Paul said in verse 14 that we should stand therefore, having girded our waist with truth.
Every saint of God fighting this battle, he/she must ensure that his or her waist is well girded with truth. Truth is of immense importance in this battle because without it, that solider will looks ordinary and not properly dressed.
In addition to our waist being girded with truth, the next as can still been seen in verse 14 is to put on the breastplate of righteousness. Practically, in any battle, both physically and spiritually, the enemies always target our hearts.
To this end, it is the breastplate of righteousness that helps to protect our hearts from any arrows of the devil in this battle. Any soldier without the brestplate, his or her heart can easily be pieced with any darts or arrows of the enemy.
From the above verse, Paul called righteousness the breastplate. As a soldier engaged in this battle, if we are not righteous, it means that we have no breastplate.
After girding our waist with truth, and putting on the breastplate of righteous, the next is to have our feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace. We can see that in verse 15.
According to Paul in verse 16, he said that above all, we should take the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.
One major reason that most of the saints of God engaged in this spiritual battle are victims and casualties is because of the dangerous imparts of fiery darts of the wicked one.
Therefore, to be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one, Paul said that we should take the shield of faith. The shield of faith is paramount for anyone that wishes to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.
To this end, we are to do everything possible to build a solid and formidable faith. How to build a solid and formidable faith is another topic of discussion of its own.
In practical sense, every soldier engaged in battle above all things used to protect his or her heads. Every soldier always ensures that his or her helmet is on all the time.
Paul in the same way encouraged us in verse 17 saying “And take the helmet of salvation. In other words, Paul called that helmet “SALVATION” and engaging in spiritual battle without salvation first is the same as engaging in warfare without helmet.
Finally, Paul talked about the sword of the Spirit which according to him is the word of God. Imagine a Roman soldier out to engage his enemy without any sword.
Obviously, that is what many saints of God are doing, engaging the devil in spiritual battle without victims and casualties because they are empty of the sword of the Spirit. Many saints of God are victims and casualties because in this spiritual battles because they are empty of the sword of the Spirit (the word of God).
Having seen what makes up the whole armors of God, are you sure that you are putting on all of them. The choice is yours.
To engage in spiritual battle and still standing without being a victim or casualty is made possible by our ability to put on the whole armors of God. Shalom!
