In Job 36:11 Job made a profound statement saying, If they obey and serve Him, They shall spend their days in prosperity, And their years in pleasures. NK JV
But who is Job?. The book of Job 1:1-3 gave us the personality profile of Job, saying, “In the land of Uz there lived a man whose name was Job. This man was blameless and upright; he feared God and shunned evil.
He had seven sons and three daughters, and he owned seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yokes of oxen and five hundred donkeys, and had many servants. He was the greatest man among all the people of the East. NIV
The summary of Job’s personality profile was that he was the greatest man among all the people of the East. In Job 36:11, he gave us insight into how his greatness or affluence came about by what he said in that verse.
The provision of the above verse is what most believers and even non-believers alike claim for themselves as you always hear them quote that verse saying,“they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures”.
Yes, Job was talking from experience in his assertion and that such provision is equally available to us today, “If we obey and serve Him, we shall spend our days in prosperity, and our years in pleasures.
However, the provision of that verse above does not come to us on a platter of gold, as there are conditions attached to it that we must fulfill before the provision could be a reality in our life and destiny.
It is our fulfillment of that condition that makes the provision a reality in our lives. That is to say, if we desire to spend our days in prosperity, and our years in pleasures, then we must fulfill the attached condition which is to obey and serve Him.
In other words, “it is only if we obey and serve Him” that He guaranteed us of spending our days in prosperity, and our years in pleasures. This is important because some are serving themselves or Mammon, yet they claim to be serving God.
God confirmed what Job said in Exodus 23:25 by His promise to Israel, saying, “So you shall serve the Lord your God, and He will bless your bread and your water. And I will take sickness away from the midst of you. NK JV
Also, Isaiah 1:19 said, If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land and 2 Chronicles 20:20b says, “believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper”.
All these references are all pointing that we all have personal responsibility as we all have condition to fulfill before we expect God to fulfill His own side of the bargain.
First, it is our absolute obedience to God’s instructions and commands, which is necessarily of paramount importance. This is because if we fail in our obedience to God’s laws and principles, we can never serve him very well.
In addition to obedience to the laws and instructions of the Almighty God, the second aspect of the conditions that must be fulfilled before we shall spend our days in prosperity, and our years in pleasures is service to God.
As said above, It is unfortunate that some claim to be serving God while as in actual sense they are serving themselves or serving mammon.
It is for that purpose that Paul said in Romans 12:1-2 saying, “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service”. NK JV
Talking about acceptable services, Paul equally said in Hebrew 12:28 saying, “Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear”. NK JV
From what Paul said above, it is our personal responsibility to present our bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God. That is to say, “acceptable services to God must be with reverence and godly fear”.
In other words, our services must be acceptable to God before God is committed to guaranteeing to or ensuring that we spend our days in prosperity, and our years in pleasures.
It is for that reason that the devil fights to keep us from presenting our bodies holy, as not to allow our services to be acceptable to God. He succeeds partly because he uses deceits and subtlety to accomplish his purpose.
One of the New Testament legend was apostle Paul, and he succeeded in his ministry partly because he understood the subtlety of the devil. He said in 2 Corinthians 2:11 saying, “lest Satan should take advantage of us; for we are not ignorant of his devices”. NK JV
In other words, as a result of ignorance that made some to allow the devil to take advantage of them using his devices. One of such devices is manipulating even pastors to indulge in $exual pleasure, thinking that they are enjoying themselves.
Any time the devil is presenting to you an opportunity to indulge in $exual pleasure, know that he is out to ensure that you don’t present your body a living sacrifice and once your body is polluted, your services will never be acceptable to God.
What is it going to be? Will you obey and serve him acceptably, then be assured that God will be committed to ensure that you shall spend your days in prosperity, and your years in pleasures? Shalom!
