When Jesus was on earth, He made a crucial statement to the Jews that believed on him as can be seen in the book of John 8:31-32.
Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
In other words, our real liberty in life anchors on our knowing and operating on the truth, our knowledge of the truth. This is worthy of note to say that we are living in an era when falsehood seems to be triumphing over the truth, when people celebrate falsehood more than the truth.
That is to say, the Biblical truth is the truth no matter how highly placed the person who is denying it is. Moreover, falsehood is falsehood no matter how highly placed the person who is propagating it, meaning that truth is the truth no matter who is in favor or against it.
No wonder Apostle Paul encouraged us in the book of 2Timothy 2:15-18 that you need to “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
Moreover, he encouraged us also of the need to shun profane and idle babbling, for they will increase to more ungodliness. Apostle Paul also cited the example of Hymenaeus and Philetus as the sort that spread falsehood, and he said that their message will spread like cancer.
The two people mentioned above are said to have strayed concerning the truth see 2 Timothy 2:17 According to Apostle Paul, Hymenaeus and Philetus have strayed concerning the truth, they were saying that the resurrection is already past and the result of that false teaching, they overthrow the faith of some.
As false teachings existed during the time of Paul, in our present society, there are equally some false beliefs and teachings that are going on.
These teachings and beliefs, if left unchecked, especially if the followers of such highly placed individuals don’t know the truth, it is likely to overthrow the faith of some. The first such false teaching or belief was the one credited to the present Pope Francis. The caption of that write up was, “Pope Francis assures atheists: You don’t have to believe in God to go to heaven”
Who am I to go against what the pontiff said, however, I wish to point out that even common sense tells us that what the pope said was totally wrong? In the first instance, the heaven we are talking about is a prepared place for the prepared people.
Obviously, any person who claims to be an atheist, but is nursing the desire and hope of going to heaven, is never serious about his belief. This is because an atheist who doesn’t believe that GOD exists, but goes on to believe that heaven exists is never serious about his belief.
It is laughable for an atheist to believe that heaven exists, but goes on to deny the existence of God as heaven was created by God, Genesis 1:1 Again the Bible clearly stated in Luke 13:3-5 saying, “I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish”.
Also, in Mark 16: 16 “He who believes and is baptized will be saved, But He Who Does Not Believe Will Be Condemned. In other words, nobody, including Pope Francis has the authority to change what Jesus said in the Bible unless he can prove that he has such powers.
Moreover, the Bible equally said that no man is righteous before God and therefore cannot merit heaven because of our righteousness. This can be seen in Isaiah 64:6 “But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousness is as filthy rags, and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away”.
So, only the redeemed have the hope of going to heaven, as nobody will ever go to heaven because of his or her self-righteousness. The Bible goes on to say in John 3:5 “Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God”.
The second wrong belief and teaching are the ones credited to Bishop N.T. Wright is one of the most formidable figures in the world of Christian thought. As Bishop of Durham, he is the fourth most senior cleric in the Church of England and a major player in the strife-riven global Anglican Communion; You can read the full text of what he said about going to heaven.
My Lord Bishop N.T. Wright, despite being a Bishop, is totally ignorant of the Bible and that is why he said that “Christians are Wrong About Heaven”. Talking about the Anglican that N.T. Wright belongs to, they are at the forefront of being the first to appoint a well-known gay bishop, which is an abomination to God.
In the old Testaments, God commanded that both homosexual offenders should be put to death. See Leviticus 20:13 “if a man also lies with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.
The summary of what I am saying is to join Paul to encourage Christians as Paul said in 2 Timothy 2:15 that we should “Study to show our self, approved unto God, a workman that needed not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
When we do, we will never be led astray by anybody no matter who he or she is, we shall know the truth and the knowledge of the truth will set us free. Shalom!
